Dear Friends,

It is my great privilege to take on the role of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Social Republic of Viet Nam to the Republic of Singapore – a magnificent country with great hospitality and spectacular achievements.

I am delighted to witness the ever-growing multifaceted relations of friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Singapore, especially the steady progress in the implementation of the connectivity programme. In recent years, the two countries have regularly exchanged many high-ranking level visits, including a state visit by Viet Nam President Truong Tan Sang in September 2011 and the official visit to Viet Nam by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in January 2010. Economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries have also developed quickly. With US$23 billion worth of investment in over 930 projects, Singapore has become Viet Nam’s third biggest investor among more than 90 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam. The trade turnover has increased throughout the years, to more than US$ 6.2 billion in 2010.

The two countries have also enjoyed a comprehensive cooperation in areas such as politics, culture, education, defence, security and tourism. ..The 100 direct flights each week between Singapore and Viet Nam are a testimony for this strong and dynamic relation. The Embassy will do utmost to foster the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries for the interests and development of the two countries and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region, contributing to the building of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

There are about 12,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in Singapore. This is a community consisting of young and highly educated people who have close connections to the homeland and live in harmony with the Singaporean society. The Embassy will always actively support the Vietnamese community, so that it will always be a highly intellectual, collaborative, successful, patriotic and friendly community.

The Embassy of Viet Nam is the bridge connecting Viet Nam with Singapore and international friends. It is the common house of the Vietnamese community in Singapore. The Embassy’s website provides you with a wealth of information about Viet Nam, the relationship between Viet Nam and Singapore, and the works of the Embassy.

I would like to warmly welcome you to the Embassy.

Thank you.

                                                                   Tran Hai Hau
                                         Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam rejects as completely unfounded, in fact and in law, China’s sovereignty claims over the Hoang Sa archipelago (which China calls “the Xisha islands”, also known as the Paracel Islands) in the annexes to the letters dated 22 May 2014 and 09 June 2014 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations as contained in documents A/68/887 and A/68/907 respectively.
